Alberto R. Olivares: Your Neighbor, Your Candidate for Starr County Sheriff
As a Starr County native, I have deep roots in this community. My name is Alberto Ramon Olivares, and I'm not just a lawman; I'm your neighbor, a rancher, a son, a brother, a father, and a husband to a loving wife. These connections are at the heart of why I'm running for Starr County Sheriff. I believe that my ties to this community, forged through years of hard work and dedication, uniquely position me to serve and protect the people I call family and friends.
From Rio Grande City to Border Patrol: A Journey of Dedication
My journey began right here in Rio Grande City, Texas, where I learned the value of hard work from my father, who ran Leo's Service Station. At just 13 years old, I was already developing a strong work ethic, working alongside my father and immersing myself in the daily operations of the family business. But my education extended beyond the gas station.
I also learned the ropes of ranching and cattle raising from my father. By my high school senior year, my father encouraged me to take the reins and buy my own herd of cattle, teaching me the value of responsibility and financial independence.
Educational Pursuits and Career in Law Enforcement
After graduating from Rio Grande City High School in 1989, I continued to follow my passion for justice. I attended Texas A&M International University in Laredo, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Criminal Justice. This was a significant step towards my career in law enforcement.
I attended two police academies and served as a Starr County Deputy Sheriff, a McAllen Police Officer (academy), and a Rio Grande City Police Officer. My journey then led me to the U.S. Border Patrol in 1997, where I embarked on a more than 26-year career filled with adventure and growth.
A Heart for Starr County: My Commitment to You
My dedication to Starr County never wavered, even as my career took me to different places. I've always fought my way back home because, for me, Starr County is not just a place; it's where my heart lies.
Now, I'm seeking one more chapter in my career by returning to where it all began: the Starr County Sheriff's Office. With my extensive education, training, and experience, I am confident that I can effectively lead the dedicated men and women of the sheriff's office with ethical conduct, honor, and integrity as my compass.
A Vision for a Safer Starr County
My vision for Starr County is simple: safety and security for all its citizens and guests. As your sheriff, I'm committed to ensuring that this community thrives. I know firsthand the challenges we face, from drug enforcement to the need for a new detention center, and I'm ready to tackle these issues head-on.
Building Trust Through Community Engagement
One of the reasons I believe I'm the right candidate for Starr County Sheriff is my genuine connection to this community. I understand the issues that matter most to our residents because I'm one of them. I'll foster stronger relationships with local, state, and federal officials, regardless of party lines. And I'll make it a priority to meet with civic and social groups to ensure open and transparent communication about the sheriff's office's plans and achievements.
Equality and Fairness: A Promise for the Sheriff's Office
Within the sheriff's office, I'm dedicated to creating a fair and equitable environment for all employees. We'll prioritize fairness when it comes to work schedules, overtime, equipment, vehicles, and uniforms, eliminating any system of "Have and Have Nots." My vision is a sheriff's office where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive.
Rebuilding Trust, Integrity, and Honor
Finally, I'm committed to rebuilding the core principles of a good law enforcement agency: Trust, Integrity, and Honor. These values are the bedrock of my administration, and I'll lead by example, ensuring that every action I take reflects these principles.
In conclusion, Starr County is not just where I live; it's where my heart belongs. I'm Alberto R. Olivares, and I'm asking for your support in the upcoming election for Starr County Sheriff. Together, we can build a safer, more secure community for all. On November 5, 2024, join me in making a difference in Starr County, Texas.
